Overview

What to
Expect

Hunza Valley sits at 2,438m in a semi-arid rain shadow formed by the surrounding Karakoram ranges. Annual rainfall is under 200mm — less than many deserts. Summers are warm and dry. Winters are cold but clear. The valley is accessible year-round by road, though Khunjerab Pass (4,693m) closes November to May.

The two best windows are late March to mid-April (cherry and apricot blossom season) and October (golden foliage, harvest, exceptional clarity). July and August have the most visitors and warmer temperatures but more haze.

Altitude note: Temperatures at Karimabad (2,438m) are consistently 5–8°C cooler than Islamabad. Passu and Gojal at 2,900–3,100m are cooler still. Always pack a warm layer regardless of season.
