Naltar sits on a 35km jeep track branching off the KKH at Nomal. No public transport beyond the junction — here is every option in detail.
Naltar Valley branches east off the Karakoram Highway at Nomal village, 30km north of Gilgit. The KKH section to Nomal is fully paved and fast. From Nomal, a 35km jeep track climbs into the valley — this is the only road in and out.
The jeep track to Naltar is rough in sections but well-used by local vehicles and the PAF. A standard 4WD jeep handles it without difficulty in good weather. The key constraint is snow: from October onwards, the upper sections accumulate snow that can close the road, and from November through April the track may be impassable without clearance. Always verify with Nomal locals before driving in winter.
