Routes, fares, journey times, and road conditions for getting to one of GB's most remote destinations.
| Total distance | 220km from Gilgit to Yasin town |
| Total time (shared) | 6–7h including transfer at Gupis |
| Total cost (shared) | Rs.700–900 (NATCO + Suzuki) |
| Total time (private jeep) | 5–6h direct |
| Private jeep cost | Rs.12,000–18,000 return |
| Step 1 | NATCO bus from Gilgit General Bus Stand → Gupis. Daily departure approximately 7–8am. Fare Rs.400. Journey 4h. The bus follows the KKH south to Gahkuch then turns onto the Ghizer road. |
| Step 2 | From Gupis bazaar, take a shared Suzuki pickup or van to Yasin. These depart when full — usually 1–2 per day. Fare Rs.300–500. Journey 3h on a rougher road through the Ghizer gorge then into the Yasin valley. |
| Timing advice | Arrive at Gupis bazaar by 9–10am to find a vehicle to Yasin. Vehicles are unreliable in the afternoon. If no vehicle, stay the night in Gupis (basic guesthouses Rs.600–1,000) and depart next morning. |
| Total cost | Rs.700–900 for the complete journey Gilgit → Yasin town. |
| Cost | Rs.12,000–18,000 return including driver and fuel. Negotiate beforehand — agree on return date and any side trips. |
| Advantage | Travel on your schedule, stop anywhere, go directly without transfers. Can reach upper Yasin valley beyond Yasin town. |
| How to arrange | Ask at your Gilgit hotel or contact local transport agencies. Drivers familiar with the Yasin route are available in Gilgit. |
| Route | From Chitral, cross Darkot Pass (4,702m) into upper Yasin Valley. A 3-day trek, not a road route. |
| Season | June–September only. Pass is snowbound outside these months. |
| Requirements | Experienced trekker, local guide (Rs.2,000–3,000/day), full camping equipment, 3–4 days. |
| Practical | Very few travellers take this route. Historically used for trade and military movement. Outstanding scenery but logistically demanding. |
| Flight | PIA or Air Sial: Islamabad → Gilgit (45min, Rs.5,000–12,000). Book the morning flight — afternoon flights cancel more often. Always build in one buffer day for weather cancellations. |
| Then | From Gilgit airport or city, follow Option 1 or 2 above to reach Yasin. |
| Gilgit → Gahkuch | 120km on KKH. Paved, generally good. Views of Ghizar River gorge. |
| Gahkuch → Gupis | 70km on the Ghizer road. Paved but narrower. Some sections close to cliff edge — take care on bends. |
| Gupis → Yasin town | 30km. Partly paved, partly rough. Passable by sedan in dry conditions. After rain, 4WD advisable. |
| Beyond Yasin town | Road becomes increasingly rough toward Immit and upper valley. 4WD or jeep required. Some sections may be impassable after heavy rain or early/late in season. |
| Winter closure | The Gupis–Yasin road can be blocked by snow November through March. Check conditions locally before attempting in shoulder months. |
| Landslides | The road between Gahkuch and Gupis is prone to landslides in spring snowmelt (April–May). Allow extra time and check locally for recent blockages. |
