The View

Sunrise Above
Karimabad

Duikar, locally called Eagle's Nest, is a hilltop at 2,900m sitting 450m above Karimabad. From here, you can see Rakaposhi (7,788m), Diran (7,257m), Lady Finger (6,000m), Ultar Peak (7,388m), the full length of the Hunza Valley, and on clear days, the Passu Cones to the north.

The sunrise view is the reason most visitors make the effort. In the first light, the peaks glow orange and pink while the valley below is still in shadow. By 8am the magic is over. The Eagle's Nest Hotel sits right at the viewpoint.

What to See

The Peaks
From Duikar

The reason Duikar earns its reputation is the sheer sweep of what is visible from a single spot. Rakaposhi at 7,788m dominates the skyline, with Diran (7,257m) beside it, the slender spire of Lady Finger (6,000m), and Ultar Peak (7,388m) rising directly above Karimabad. On clear days the view extends north toward the Passu Cones. Below it all, the green terraces and orchards of the Hunza Valley stretch the full length of the gorge.

Sunrise is the headline event, when the peaks catch the first light in orange and pink while the valley floor is still in shadow. But the viewpoint is worth the trip at sunset too, and on a clear night the star field above the mountains is exceptional. By around 8am the soft morning light has gone, so early risers are rewarded.
