Hunza has 30+ guesthouses and hotels concentrated in Karimabad, with a smaller selection in Aliabad (5km below) and Passu (~45–47km north). Quality varies enormously. Booking ahead is essential in April (blossom) and July–August.

Booking tip: Call directly or book through the guesthouse WhatsApp — Booking.com and similar sites charge 15–18% commission which gets passed to the price. Direct bookings save money for both parties.

Where to Stay

Choosing
Your Base

Most travellers base themselves in Karimabad, where the bulk of the guesthouses and hotels are concentrated and where you are walking distance from Baltit Fort, the bazaar, and the path up to Duikar. It is the most convenient choice for a first trip, with options at every budget tier from basic family-run rooms to full-service hotels.

Aliabad, about 5km below Karimabad, is quieter and a little cheaper, but you lose the walkable proximity to the main sights. Passu, far to the north, suits travellers focused on the Cones, Borith Lake, and Upper Hunza — it is a long drive from Karimabad, so plan to stay a night or two rather than day-tripping. Match the area to where you actually intend to spend your days.

FAQ

Common
Questions

When should I book a hotel in Hunza?

Book well ahead for April, when the blossom season peaks, and for July and August, the busiest summer months. Rooms in these windows fill quickly, especially the better-located guesthouses in Karimabad.

How can I save money on accommodation in Hunza?

Book directly with the guesthouse by phone or WhatsApp rather than through a booking platform. Platforms typically charge 15–18% commission, which gets passed on to the room price, so booking direct saves money for both you and the host.

Where is the best area to stay in Hunza?

Karimabad is the most convenient base, with the widest choice of accommodation and walking access to Baltit Fort, the bazaar, and the Duikar viewpoint path. Aliabad is quieter and cheaper, while Passu suits travellers focused on Upper Hunza.

What do hotels in Hunza cost?

Budget rooms run roughly Rs.1,500–3,500 per night, mid-range options Rs.4,000–9,000, and premium hotels Rs.10,000 and above. Dorm beds are available at some guesthouses for less. Prices vary with season and view.

Are there dorm or backpacker options in Hunza?

Yes. Several guesthouses in the Karimabad bazaar area offer shared dorm beds at a lower per-person rate than a private room. Ask around in the bazaar, as availability changes through the season.
